Mayor's Message

The City of Regina is pleased to be planning and hosting the National Infrastructure Summit, occurring January 26 – 28, 2011. The Summit is the first organized event of its kind in which all orders of government, political leaders, administrators, and members of the public and private sector are invited and encouraged to attend to engage in discussions and workshops from leaders and experts in various fields on global best practices and new approaches to planning, building and maintaining infrastructure.
The goal of the Summit is to move away from a "blame and shame" agenda and move forward to one of joint partnership. During the coming months, while current economic stimulus dollars are being delivered, the Summit offers a forum to work towards and establish common objectives, goals, resolutions and infrastructure solutions to unify and strengthen relationships. It is this cohesive approach that will lead to innovative approaches that will ultimately better position municipalities to deal with the challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century.
In addition to keynote speakers, the Summit will be divided into five major themes:
- Financing opportunities;
- Program models / governance;
- Citizen engagement;
- Innovation; and
- Defining the need.
Each theme will offer interactive sessions, with keynote speakers consisting of a mix of academia and practical leaders, who will both inform and challenge participants. To add a political dimension, the theme workshops will be facilitated by the Mayors of Regina, Vancouver, Mississauga, St. John's and Montreal.
Summit success will see participants leaving the conference with innovative "out of the box" global solutions that will both inspire and challenge those in attendance to better meet the national infrastructure challenges faced across the country.
Regina is proud to be the provincial capital and home to the magnificent Saskatchewan Legislative building located in picturesque Wascana Centre. Regina’s Royal Saskatchewan Museum, RCMP Heritage Centre, and Government House are just a sampling of our city’s attractions. I am pleased and proud to show you first hand what Regina has to offer.

Mayor Pat Fiacco, City of Regina
Pat Fiacco, Maire de Regina
